Annette Hawksworth

Annette learnt to swim in Singapore at the age of 5. She has an older brother and ‘encouraged’ by him she would jump without arm bands from the diving board into the deep end. Mum decided it was time she had lessons, for her peace of mind as much as anything! At 11 she could swim a mile and her love of the water was obvious.

She has achieved numerous swimming awards and joined the Swalings team in 2005. She was so keen she admits she did not even know what her wage was until her first pay slip arrived. She remembers her first class had some crying babies but she was not put off. She enjoys passing on her knowledge and making people realise that swimming is fun and she likes to make a game of learning.

She is keen on most sports particularly Hockey and Tennis and ran for the County in her Youth. Married to Tony, who is a level two swimming instructor, her daughter Katie is also looking to follow in the family footsteps.

As well as the UK Annette has also worked at the Swalings Academy in Antigua.

Tony Hawksworth MBE
Director and Secretary

Tony received his MBE for services to the Army and also has a Masters Degree as a Master of Science.

His role includes being a pool side manager as well as being responsible for new business. He is a swimming level 2 instructor and says it’s fun to help people learn to swim but considers it is even more important that they are equipped with the skills for water safety and personal survival.

Tony has coached Football and Volleyball and brings a wealth of experience to the team.

Katie Hawksworth

Katie loves the water and started to swim at an early age in Winchester. Katie passed her poolside helper qualification in July 2007 and then had the great opportunity to teach in Antigua for a few weeks. Katie says, “the teaching atmosphere in Antigua is different to the atmosphere in England as the children are more conscious of the water.”

She loves seeing the look on children’s faces when the achieve something that they haven’t before. “Swalings are great to work for and they are very helpful at all times and are there for you when you need them.”

In her spare time Katie enjoys participating in sports but mainly swimming and tennis.
