Swalings Antigua Government Award
Swalings is proud to announce on Saturday 21st April whilst attending the National Sports Awards we were awarded with a trophy in recognition of our contribution to school sports in the Outstanding Growth in a new school sport – School’s Scholarship Swimming Programme category.
It was an honour (and a suprise!) to recieve the award and we are truly grateful.
We would like to thank the Ministry of Sports for recognising our efforts in developing the sport of swimming and making it accessible to as many children as possible. Throughout our different programmes we currently teach over 600 children a week to swim and since arriving in Antigua 9 years ago swimming in Antigua has gone from strength to strength and is now one of the most popular sports in Antigua with a successful National team.
To be successful in the water you must first be safe and have confidence in the water and this is where Swalings forte lies. We specialise in teaching children to swim from a young age and giving them the confidence to be safe in the water whilst having fun. Again over Easter we woke to headlines of another drowning, this time in Barbuda. This is sad news and highlights the importance of learning to swim when living on an Island. It is essential that all children and adults learn to swim, not only does it give you as parents the peace of mind your child is safe when playing in the water, although still under supervision, but also gives them the freedom to play and opens up so many opportunities to windsurf, kitesurf, sail or even scuba dive. The essence of Island Living!
It is important that children are aware of the dangers of water and learn to respect it. Our lessons teach the fundamentals of swimming and also water safety from a young age so a child has the skills to not only save themselves in the water but also others. Being able to swim 10 meters of doggy paddle is not swimming, to be safe and competent in the water a child should be able to swim at least 600 meters, and have some ability to swim with their clothes on, this way should they get into difficulty in the water they can hopefully swim to some sort of safety. As part of the Swalings Swimming programme we have a structured badge scheme that allows you to monitor your childs progress in the water and gives them something to aim for and encourage them to improve their swimming.
Our new term of swimming and football lessons are just starting back so if you want to ensure your children or you can grasp the basics of how to swim in time for the summer holidays now is the time to get started or get back in the pool and improve your current ability. Please contact us in the office to find out about our different courses and timetable.
Again we would like to say thank you “our customers” for all your support over the years and to the children for their outstanding efforts in the water.
Happy swimming

I continue practising what I did for the last three days, I am getting better as the days go along. I think i am getting ready to swim when I go to the beach with my mommy. When I do things well in the swimming lessons Gerry would give me high fives. I am really enjoying learning to swim with Swalings.

Today was even better than ever, I learnt how to do the mushroom float, star float, backward somersault,

Day 2 Swimming Lessons
I did the same thing as day one but this time I had to do it much faster than the first day, it was harder but I was able to do it. I was getting better and better, I really enjoyed the swimming lessons.

Day 1
On my first day of swimming lessons I was so excited Gerry Swatton was going to be my swimming teacher for the week of lessons. I wonthe course of lessons through a swimming competition. On the first day i was taught to do a duck dive , backstroke, extended arm stroke on my front, I used a float to keep me up since it was my very first time in the water. I enjoyed it as it was my first lesson. Gerry the best swimming teacher ever.

Swimming lessons saves lives
No child is drown proof, but there are steps parents can take to make their children safer in the water. Swalings swimming Instructors firmly believe that swimming lessons save lives.
Kids as young as thre years old were making a big splash at Swalings during there Easter swimming courses. The water is 90 degrees, and that makes it more inviting for students to become immersed in their lessons as well as having fun and learning to or improve their swimming.

Franchising Your Business
Franchising is not at all a new concept. We witness many franchises in our every day lives as there are plenty of chains all over the country. These franchises have some control over the chain and run them almost independently. In a nutshell, franchise is a business established under an authorization to sell a company’s goods and services in a different area.
Many people in this uncertain economic time are looking at working for themselves, if you are one and like helping people change their lifestyle and teach life skills then perhaps a swimming franchise with Swalings may be the way forward.
